Karoline wrote across the river in the picture, "hvis ikke uiren [?] findes saa bides [?] dette til bage sent" -- possibly an apology for the unsatisfactory message on the other side -- and on the back "Thjen 16-7-1913. Mange tak for brevet som jeg ikke har fodt. jeg lever bare vel. haaber du gjor det samme jeg har ikke mere at skrive om bare en hilsen til dig fra Karoline" -- she thanks him for a letter, is well and hoping he is the same, but has no more to write except best wishes.
